  • Adaptive Data Block Placement Based on Deterministic Zones

This adaptive block placement method is based on deterministic zones, which grows dynamically (zone-by-zone) according to capacity demands. When adapting new storage subsystems, it changes only a fraction of the data layout while preserving a simple management of data due to deterministic placement.
This method uses both a mechanism focused on reducing the overhead suffered during the upgrade as well as a heterogeneous data layout for taking advantage of disks with higher capabilities. [More info?]
  • NeneK: A Virtual Communities Architecture of Indigenous Speakers for Archiving linguistic/cultural digital assets (focused on Tének and Nahuatl cultures, which is a Mayan and aztec languages)

In 1889 38% of Mexicans spoke an indigenous language, down from 60% in 1820. By the end of the 20th century, this figure had fallen to 6%. The three branches of Mayan languages are Cholan, Yucatecan and the more distantly related Huastecan or Tének. The last one also has observed a gradual decrement in the amount of speakers. The idea of Nenek achitecture is the young indigenous can speak and use their mother language (Tének in the first prototype) in order to interact with Internet just like Spanish or English speakers do. - So, Nenek (which means Hi in Tének) includes:
+ A social Network for indigenous languages
+ Online Services in mother lenguage such as mail, storage, contents management and web pages generators
+ Adaptive Collaborative Work for indigenous organizations.
+ Authomatic collector of linguistic/cultural digital assets.
+ Online repositories of linguistic/cultural digital assets.
+ Adaptive Metadata management for storing contents into distributed disk systems.

  • AdaptStoring

    adaptstoriing
    - Defining Storage zones according to the application needs.
+ Its own Capacity, I/O performance and Redundancy.
    - Several applications working on the same storage system.
+ Studying the influence on the I/O performance
+ Defining an adequate block size per zone.
    - Upgrade processes focused on applications not on whole data layout.
+ Moving a fraction of data per storage zone not per data layout.

  • Algorithms for Distributing Orthogonal Redundancy on Adaptive Storage Systems.

    OBS
This research project was proposed as an option for storage systems looking for achieve a high performance and a high data availability.

  • Maximizing the performance in heterogeneous storage subsystems

    OBS
This research line, has been only presented for homogeneous and static storage systems, this proposal resulted in an world standard on homogeneous storage systems configuration.

Our proposal will try to discover adequate striping unit for heterogeneous adaptive storage sytems, in order to define storage zones acording to the applications features
